Meaning of the U S Flag colors

 

These the flag holidays as specified by the flag code, with a few additions. The President can proclaim additional days. States may have their own flag flying days, and often include the states birthday.

Title 36, Chapter 10 of the U.S. flag code states that the "flag should be flown every day, especially on..." and then gives a list.

 

New Year's Day - January 1
Inauguration Day - January 20
Martin Luther King Jr's Birthday - The 3rd Monday in January
Lincoln's Birthday - February 12
Washington's Birthday - The Third Monday in February
Easter Sunday - Date varies between March 22 and April 25
Patriots Day - The third Monday in April
Mother's Day - The second Sunday in May
Armed Forces Day - The third Saturday in May
Memorial Day (half-staff until noon) - The last Monday in May
Flag Day - June 14
Independence Day - July 4th
Labor Day - The first Monday in September
Constitution Day - September 17
Columbus Day, October 12th, or second Monday in October
Navy Day - October 27
Veterans Day - November 11
Thanksgiving Day - The fourth Thursday in November
Christmas Day - December 25
Election Days
