February 18, 1688 - A group composed
of whites become the first to issue a formal complaint against slavery and
its trade. Quakers and Mennonites met in Germantown, Pennsylvania, to
write the "Germantown Protest".
February 18, 1841 - The U.S. Senate began to experience the first
continuous filibuster, which did not end until March 11th.
February 18, 1865 - Confederate troops abandon Charleston, South Carolina
during the Civil War as Union troops approach Fort Sumter.
