February 22, 1819 - The Florida Purchase Treaty is signed by
representatives of Spain and the United States. In the treaty, Spain
agrees to release the remainder of its territory in Florida to the United
States.
February 22, 1860 - The first game of organized professional baseball in
played in San Francisco.
February 22, 1847 - Generals Santa Anna of Mexico and Zachary Taylor
(future president of the U.S.) of the U.S. fight the Battle of Buena Vista
during the Mexican-American War.
