February 28, 1646 - After falling
asleep in church, Roger Scott is put on trial by the Puritans of
Massachusetts.
February 28, 1803 - Formal congressional approval is given for President
Thomas Jefferson's plan for an expedition to the Pacific. $2,500 is also
allocated for the use of the expedition. The expedition became known as
the Lewis and Clark Expedition.
February 28, 1844 - While President Tyler is on board the U.S. Navy's
steamship Princeton, a cannon explodes during a demonstration. The
Secretary of State is killed, but the president is not injured.
February 28, 1859 - Free blacks are exiled from Arkansas based on a
legislative vote.
