January 4, 1863 - James Plimpton receives a patent for the four-wheeled roller skate.

January 4, 1920 - The Negro National League is formed.

January 4, 1944 - The United States begins to supply guerrilla forces working against the Axis forces in western Europe during WW II. They were airdropped supplies by United States aircraft.
