January 13, 1846 - U.S. General Zachary Taylor takes 4,000 troops to the
Texas border in preparation for war with Mexico.
January 13, 1910 - Opera is broadcast live on radio for the first time by
the Metropolitan Opera in New York.
January 13, 1919 - The state of California adds its weight to the issue
prohibition, as it votes in favor of national prohibition of alcoholic
