March 9, 1822 - Charles Graham receives a patent for false teeth.
March 9, 1841 - The African slaves who took control of the slave ship they
were on, the Amistad, are released from custody by the U.S. Supreme Court.
The court determined that they had been illegally forced into slavery.
March 9, 1917 - After German U-boats begin to attack ships during WW I,
President Woodrow Wilson issues an order that all merchant ships should be
armed.

March 9, 1938 - Bob Hope makes his movie debut, in the film The Big
Broadcast of 1938.
March 9, 1942 - Approximately 20,000 Allied troops are forced to surrender
to the Japanese during WWII in Java.
March 9, 1945 - The Shitamachi neighborhood in Tokyo is firebombed by U.S.
warplanes. Of the 750,000 people living in the neighborhood, between
80,000 and 130,000 people were killed, and almost 16 square miles burned.
